No, I'm not hanging out on a beach in Florida, although that would certainly be nice! My sunshine is not from the sky at all. I'm actually in somewhat cloudy, and rather chilly, Rochester, NY, home of my two grandsons and their mommy and daddy. So instead of spending this ten-day break from my classroom creating my own art, I'm playing ball in the yard (any kind...basketball, football, soccer, baseball!), visiting the National Museum of Play and the Seneca Park Zoo, and hanging out with a few of my favorite people in the world. I did have some free hours on Monday and spent them at the Rochester Museum & Science Center viewing an amazing exhibit about Leonardo da Vinci. One room was devoted to research conducted on the Mona Lisa, but most of the exhibit featured models of his incredible sketchbook inventions...what genius! My take away from both museum visits is a collection of quotations, which I hope to use as the basis for a series of paintings when I get home, and the exhibit guide and DVD from the da Vinci exhibit, which will undoubtedly find its way into my classroom later this school year.
