I knew that one change that had to be made was with my Etsy shop banner. My original banner, with the pink butterfly image, was based on my original business card design from spring of 2014. When the cards arrived, I didn't really care for them because they just seemed too pale and bland to represent "Thoroughly Modern Mimi". I found a much more appealing business card design with a deep lavender background and maroon lettering and knew I wanted to design something similar for my Etsy banner. Since my budget is pretty much non-existent, I used www.bannerfans.com , a free banner creation website. Although the options were pretty basic, the price was right, and this is what I decided to use for now. Over the past two weeks, I've added a few listings to my shop and I have a few designs waiting in the wings, but most of my free time has been spent just learning some of the ins and outs of social media marketing. I've joined two Facebook groups for creative business start-ups and signed up for a month-long class on CreativeLive called Double Your Followers with Creative Marketing. The best thing about Creative Live classes is that they are free when they are first offered and they rebroadcast multiple times through each day, so I can easily catch each day's lesson. The instructor, April Bowles-Olin, provided a wealth of downloadable handbooks and resources, and presents the information in an easy to understand, short session each day. I've taken two other classes on CreativeLive, both for Etsy start ups, and both have been very helpful for getting my own shop up and running. I've found that most of the creative entrepreneurs I've met online are supportive and very generous with their time and talents. Sure, they all offer to provide even more product or information for a price, but for those of us just starting out on limited budgets and with limited time, their free advice and information is a great way to get started!
