So how does one go from being a Creativity Crusader by day to a camera toting, book loving, jewelry designing, overly caffeinated beach dreamer in her off hours?
Quite simply, just by putting one foot in front of another all day, every day, for over fifty years! My love of all things creative goes all the way back to my elementary school years in the pre-internet dark ages with all the little doodles and drawings that populated the edges and corners of my notebooks and book covers. After school and summer hours were often spent sharing a love of Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys mysteries with my elementary school BFFs as we dangled our legs over the edges of our tree house in the nearby woods. How I wish I still had those pencil drawings of my first celebrity crush...a very young Paul McCartney of The Beatles!
Cameras came a little later with the purchase of my first Polaroid camera as a teenager.
I still treasure those fading images and the memories of good times even though I have long since moved on to my Nikon DSLR, my iPhone, and my thousands of computer files!
My love of caffeine dates back to college in the early 70s...
All those late night study sessions and last minute oil paintings due the next day required lots of bad, bad cafeteria coffee! Since then, I've moved on to Starbucks and Tim Horton's, but the late nights haven't changed all that much. Grading papers as an elementary classroom teacher years ago, raising a daughter while working full time and going to graduate school, mounting artwork for a student show, and finding precious hours for my own artwork, kept the need for caffeine alive and well in my world!
Now that I've finally retired from my forty years in education, I'm dreaming of having more time...
Time for my own art...time for my precious family...time for rest and relaxation...time for all the adventures that lie ahead for me...and certainly time for relaxing on a warm, sunny beach!
